1963 was one of the most exciting years of the 60;s The Beatles and the Liverpool sound were breaking through and with that came so many songs that groups were covering. While American music was dominated by clean cut white boys British groups were recording tracks originally recorded by Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley,The Coasters and other black artists. The music was heavily R&b based and songs such as "Some Other Guy" "Hippy Hippy Shake" and "Twist and Shout" were soon be played in clubs all over the country. It is interesting to note that only one American record ( Elvis Presley's " Devil in Disguise") topped the British charts in 1963.

At the beginning of 1964 the American invasion of British groups had not begun and Britain stood alone as the leader of a new music and sound.

Deep down in Soho, a district of London more associated with ladies of the night and seedy night-clubs a disc jockey by the name of Guy Stevens was attracting kids from the suburbs who crammed into a small club called the Scene,which today is now covered over by a car park.
